Description

1997...

EVIL? MONSTERS?: State representatives debate the Robots raised by robots should not be allowed to raise our human children

The headlines were agonizing. Robot silently carried the newspaper, the pages lose in his grip, and would have slipped to the floor, if not for his numb rubber fingers.

“I've seen it already," Shannon said dismissively, trying to keep her disgust of looking at the robot hidden as well as she could, even if she did a terrible job at it.

Stung by the words, Robot could not help that his demeanor with her was always helpful and  placed a hand on Shannon's shouder as she stared out the window.

It all came down to this. The AI wars. Though her face told no more than typical motherly exhaustion. Robot couldn't help but notice the way she gripped the curtains—a death grip, her fists turning purple. Robot ached for her, even if they were both in the same positon. She would have to bring up her daughter—a child she didn't even want in the first place—in a tense world. A cold world. Only unlike his daughter, hers would be defenseless.

“This tension has to blow over soon. They won't let it become war," she said in slight murmurs that Robot could only pick up with his superior ears. He watched her lips move in the window, watched her fraigle reflection in the glass. There was no sun in the sky that day. Just like her father, she shivered in the slightest of cold drafts. How could someone who appeared so fragile now have done such amazing things, such strong things, in the past? The Westerburg Conundrum. Robot could not lie to this woman about the state of the world--not because it was against his protocol, but against his heart. However, he would do everything to take away the belief that she had any part in the spark of violence.

“This war was over fifty years in the making,” Robot said, referring to the battle between democracy, communism, and technology. “There's nothing that could have stopped it.”

Both of them would end up having to bring up their children in the greatest conflict the world had ever known. The Cold War was over. But the Steel war was just over the horizon.

Ladies and gentleman... my clusterfuck.

This is the first piece of my future RJ fanfic, that at this point is just glued together in random scraps. OK, so basic background of this story: You've got RJ staying at Shannon's house due to a whole mess of legal shit with JNZ that I haven't had the patience to sit and think and type out completely... anyway, RJ has kind of become a live in at her house to stay safe, and in the midst of this all, Shannon gets into a brief relationship, has a kid, the father dies, all of this kind of screws with Robot's head. RJ, who kind of hides as a robotic housekeeper or something, gets bonded with the kid, but this stirs up a lot of angry media attention, saying that it's dangerous and calling Shannon a bad parent, yeah, I have no idea how this got so freaking complicated. RJ is kind of comforting her while she's stressing about that, and all of this sudden backlash against robots in America all of the sudden.

So yeah... It's nearly two in the morning, and I can't come up with a better summary of this mess than that. ^^; I hope it's the slightest bit understandable. Peace.
